Meet Bishop

Saturday morning Davis and Peyton went squirrel hunting. The little kids and I had Chinese school. I got up early, took my shower, and sat down at the computer to check my email. All of a sudden I heard a loud THUD. I thought the kids had thrown something at the wall. I turned and looked out the window and saw a poof of feathers. I just new a bird had flown into the glass, broke his neck, and died. The kids came running and I thought great another death conversation. Well it was a red cardinal and he was still alive!

Olivia says "Mama you have to help him because Diego always helps animals in trouble". Well Diego doesn't have a severe bird phobia like I do. So, I pick up the bird and put him in the yard hoping he will fly away. No such luck. I pick him up and we just stare at each other. I call Davis because is the family McGyver/Animal rescuer. He says put him in a box and I'll deal with it later. OK, I put him in a box with some water and seed and shut him in the half bath.

The kids and I decide to name him. Olivia wants to name him Steve. I said he really doesn't look like a Steve. How about Bishop (you know cardinal-catholic-Bishop- made sense to me). We get dressed and are about to leave when I go to check on Bishop. He's no longer in his box! He starts flying around, I freak out, slam the door(on my face), and scream. Then My next thought is -I have to get a picture for the blog! I get my camera and stick my hand in with the psycho bird and snap away.

My friend's husband was coming over to drop his daughter off so I asked him how good he was at catching birds. He says "One to keep or one to kill?". Neither, one to get out of my house! Thanks Eric for saving us and Bishop too.

That's hilarious! I can just see you doing all that with the psycho bird in your house. Maybe you should just build him a little birdhouse off the kitchen?

I ask Eric, if everything had gone OK when he dropped Lily off and he said "yes". I ask anything going on at Leigh's house? He said, "not really". I said, what about the bird? He said "oh, yes, Leigh had a bird in her bathroom"......., not sure if that means our house is so wild compared to yours that a bird doesn't even register in him mind OR if your house is always wild, so he thought it was just normal. OR maybe it is both.

Glad he could help, and thanks for taking Lily for us.
